Frequently Asked Questions

Hypnobirthing and antenatal, common questions

What do you offer?
Complete preparation for birth and the early weeks, in one place. The flagship is the Hypnobirthing and Antenatal Programme, a full course over two Sundays that covers both the birth preparation and the practical antenatal side together. There's also private one-to-one hypnobirthing, tailored around you and shorter workshops and socials. Details and prices are on their own pages.

What makes it different from other antenatal or hypnobirthing classes?
Most courses give you one half. Antenatal classes tend to cover what happens without much on how to cope with it, and hypnobirthing courses focus on the calm without the wider practical side. This covers both together, so you leave ready for the birth and the first few weeks at home, rather than piecing it together from different places. It's the thing mums in my baby classes most often say they wish they'd had.

What does the antenatal side actually cover?
How labour works and what to expect, your choices and options, comfort and pain relief, and what the early days look like, feeding and the first weeks at home. Alongside that, the hypnobirthing itself, the breathing and the tools for staying calm and clear-headed when it counts.

I've done or booked something like NCT. Will there be repetition?
Very little, and they work well together. If you're doing the full Programme, it's built to give you the whole picture in one place, so nothing's wasted.

Does hypnobirthing actually work?
It's not magic and it won't promise a pain-free birth. It helps you understand what's happening, manage the sensations, stay calmer and make clearer decisions. The NHS and many hospital trusts recommend it, and plenty of women find it makes a real difference to how their birth goes and how they feel afterwards.

Is it only for calm, straightforward births?
No, it's for every birth, home, hospital, pool, caesarean, with or without pain relief or intervention. The tools work alongside anything, in any setting. The point is to feel calm, informed and in control whatever the day brings.

Does my birth partner need to come?
The full course is made for both of you, so it's best if they can be there. They learn your choices and how to advocate for you when it matters. If they can't make everything, we can work around the essentials.

When's the best time to start?
Any time in your pregnancy, often somewhere between 12 and 34 weeks, though earlier or later is fine. Get in touch and we'll sort what fits.

Is there anyone who should check with a doctor first?
Yes. If you have a heart condition, epilepsy, a sleep disorder, severe asthma or a psychotic illness, check with your GP first. Don't use the relaxation tools while driving or operating machinery.

Are you properly qualified?
Yes. I've been an early years teacher for nearly twenty years, including school leadership, and I trained in hypnobirthing with Love Your Birth. I also work in breastfeeding, postnatal and newborn support with NestBaby, and I keep my training current through ongoing CPD with The Birth Academy and NestBaby. So its grounded in real, up-to-date practice.

Can I talk to you before booking?
Yes. If you'd like a quick call to ask anything and work out which option suits you, just message me and we'll arrange one. No obligation.

How do I book?
From the relevant page, or message me if you'd like that word first.

Frequently asked questions

Baby Classes

The Baby Collection, common questions

What are the classes?
Small, calm classes for you and your baby, built around baby massage and, as they grow, baby yoga. There's a one-off Baby Sanctuary session too. All of them are a good way to support your baby's development, learn something you can use at home, and meet other mums at the same stage.

Baby massage, what is it and who's it for?
A gentle five-week block where you learn a full massage sequence to use at home. It can ease trapped wind and soothe an unsettled baby, and it's calm time that builds the bond between you. Plenty of mums find it settles them as much as the baby. For babies from around 6 weeks until they start rolling.

Baby yoga, what is it and who's it for?
Gentle movement and singing pitched at what your baby's working on as they grow, with a little stretch-and-breathe time for you and a keepsake scrapbook you build across the block. It's the natural next step from massage as they get more active. For babies who are a bit older and starting to want more going on.

Baby Sanctuary, what is it?
A one-off, slower session, a bit of stillness and a few lovely things for you and your baby together. Details are on the booking page.

What's the early years side I keep seeing mentioned?
I taught in early years for nearly twenty years, so I bring a bit of that into class, gently. Noticing what your baby's drawn to, what they're working on at each stage, and following those natural patterns as they grow. It's less about activities and more about helping you read your baby.

Do I need to bring anything?
Everything's provided, including the massage oil. Just bring spare nappies and anything you'd normally need for your baby.

What should my baby wear?
For massage, they're most comfortable in just a nappy. Bring a couple of layers so they're easy to dress again afterwards.

What if I've never done this before?
No experience needed. I'll guide you through every step, so you'll feel confident by the end.

What happens if my baby cries?
Completely normal, and nobody minds. You're welcome to comfort or feed your baby whenever they need it. It's a relaxed, no-pressure hour.

Can I feed my baby during the session?
Of course. It's a baby-led hour, so feed whenever you need to.

Is baby massage safe?
Yes, safe and gentle when a trained practitioner shows you how. I'll take you through each stroke so you're doing it in a way that's safe and soothing.

Can I come with twins?
Yes. Twins and siblings close in age are very welcome at no extra charge, and I'll help you include and support both babies.
Will it help my baby's development?

Yes. The classes support your baby's physical, emotional and social development, and it's early time together that's genuinely good for them, and good for you.
